Mel B.
My first name is Melanie and to shorten my last name – since most can’t pronounce it – close friends refer to me as Mel B. so let’s use this given nickname I’ve fondly accepted for the purpose of our interactions on this blog.
Originally born in NYC, moved to Raleigh, NC as a teenager (parent work transfer) going into high school. So it’s no wonder I’ve always loved that city fashion flair that stuck with me into my growing years. Don’t get me wrong! NC is HOME now and I truly embraced that southern chicness as well which is why my style is a bit edgy with a taste of classic elegance.
I graduated from college with a Chemistry degree and dove into the research and development world of pharmaceutical drug, devices, and biologics successfully working myself through the ranks and various roles with “big-pharma”, small biotech companies, and contracting organizations where I finally landed an industry sought after high profile position. I will post about this later and explain why I’m suddenly experimenting with content.
I currently reside in Wilmington, NC with my incredibly supportive husband (he’s the reason I finally took this leap) and my dog – the motivating force for this endeavor (and spotlight of this site)!

Emma
Her first name is pronounced [Em] + [Ah], means “whole” or “universal”, and it is in our last name backwards; both of German descent. She is a 10-year old faded yellow Labrador Retriever (otherwise known as a “blonde lab”) full of personality and sass – or “labitude” – an endearing term you will see frequently used throughout my commentary in general!
Emma was diagnosed with bilateral CCL Disease and advanced Degenerative Joint Disorder when she was only 5 years old (more about this on a later post). Her healing journey has been equally challenging and rewarding in so many ways – again, details to come in future discussions – but I am including here now to highlight the major role she plays in our life. She is at the forefront of every decision factored in our home, the center of most of my social media posts (sorry, not sorry honey), and the INSPIRATION FOR THIS BLOG!
If you are new here and not already familiar with Emma, I absolutely CANNOT wait for you to get to know her in this space.
